I think Russell is a good driver but will he be able to lead the team? I’m not so sure. Whenever the pressure is on, he has too much of a history of fumbling. Time will tell though. They pitted Lewis first for the medium which meant that he would have had an older medium against George's hard tire which would have benefited George if there was no safety car. Then they gave Lewis the slower tire after the safety car. It was basically a lose lose situation for Lewis.

The problem with softs, when it's cold, is that they grain. They would have lost grip in like 2 laps, especially on a car with as many problems as the merc. Hards were certainly a better option than softs. I get that Merc are now looking at Russel as their priority but really, they have much larger problems than their on-track resource mismanagement, namely their off-track management... which has been an abysmal for years already. But it's harsh to be calling them liars. I would characterize the lack of precision in the radio message as a team cultural thing. At best they are unprepared , at worst incompetent. Either way, they are uncompetitive.

And yes, Merc F1 are properly shady with Hamilton. But it has form; even before Rosberg 2016 WDC gifting, they (then Brawn GP) did a similar with Barrichello. See when they brought in the double-diffuser and were way ahead of everyone else, Barrichello’s pointed that it was only his car that suffered mechanical issues (gearbox I believe.) it stunk because he was clear he would have wiped the floor with Button and won the WDC. Only when JB was close to securing the title, did RBs car work as it should.
